Why go to Church?

by Wyatt Pruitt

Church is where we go to receive divine gifts

  • Hearing the word of God
  • Forgiveness of sins
  • Receiving of the Body and Blood of the Lord in Communion
  • Baptism
  • Fellowship with other believers

Christians are both individuals and part of the Body of Christ. Just as a cell outside the body will die a Christian who neglects meeting with other Christians and receiving God’s gifts will have there faith diminished or die.

“so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.”

Romans 12:5 ESV

“not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day (the final judgement/return of Jesus) drawing near.”

Hebrews 10:25 ESV

Meeting together in the Body of Christ is where we come to here the Lord speak the clearest. John’s Revelation was received on the Lord’s Day (Sunday)

“I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet saying, ‘Write what you see in a book and send it to the seven churches, to Ephesus and to Smyrna and to Pergamum and to Thyatira and to Sardis and to Philadelphia and to Laodicea.’”

Revelation 1:10-11

Scripture is already written so God wont speak to us like he did to John, but he will speak through the ordinary means of Grace, (Preaching and Reading of the Word, Baptism, and Communion).

So on this Lord’s day go to Church, have your sins forgiven, remember how through Jesus’s blood all of your sins are forgiven, receive his Body and Blood, fellowship with your brothers in Christ and go sin no more.
